How To Judging the quality of an Aluminum Spacer Bar

Aluminum spacer bar (the component used in insulating glass units, or IGUs, to separate the two panes of glass) is critical because it directly impacts the window's performance, longevity, and energy efficiency.

Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to judge quality, covering both visual inspection and technical specifications.

1. Material and Coating

· High Quality:  It should have a consistent, smooth anodized or powder-coated finish. Anodizing is superior for durability and corrosion resistance.

2. Thermal Performance (The Most Critical Factor)

· High Quality:
 · Thermally Broken Spacer: The spacer has a non-metallic, low-conductivity material (like polypropylene, silicone foam, or structural foam) separating the interior and exterior aluminum parts. 

3. Design and Construction

· Corner Construction:
 · High Quality: Bent, continuous corners (where a single piece of spacer is machine-bent at 90-degree angles). This creates a near-hermetic seal with no gaps, drastically reducing the risk of seal failure and gas leakage. 


4. Desiccant Capacity & Filling:
 · High Quality: Spacer tube has numerous, small perforations on the inner side (facing the airspace) and is fully and evenly filled with a high-quality desiccant (like molecular sieve). This effectively absorbs residual moisture inside the IGU.

5. Durability and Seal Integrity

· High Quality: Designed for compatibility with primary (polyisobutylene - PIB) and secondary (polysulfide, silicone, polyurethane) sealants.
